what oil do you guys run? Mine seems to shift Fing hard in the winter, thinking about changing oil to a lighter oil for winter use. I'm running the mopar nv5600 fluid now. thanks in advance

Amsoil Manual Trans Fluid (5w30)

I don't think it shifts harder in the winter.

Also run Amsoil.

When it was really cold here (-15ish) I noticed the oil was much thicker.. You could feel it moving the stick around. I'm still happy with the performance though, no issues for many thousands of miles.

I tried the amsoil and ever since had problems with 3rd syncs. Not to blame the oil, it may be a coincidence of timing.

I run the Penzoil Syncro Mesh junk from NAPA. I have never liked Penzoil junk especially their motor oil, but I was down and that was all I could find that day. I've put over 50K on the truck running this fluid and it seems to work ok. I still have to double clutch 3rd every time up or down shifting. I also put 6 qts instead of 5 but you have to fill it with the shift tower removed.

$.02

Years ago amsoil said to run their 5w30 engine oil in it. They have since came out with an oil specific for the NV5600(maybe just rebranded the engine oil) Has anyone ran either?

Also if the oil is too slick the synchros can have problems.

When I changed the oil about 4 1/2 years ago, I want to say the label said explicitly 5w-30. I just got another order of it to change the fluid again, and it says "Manual Syncromesh Transmission Fluid" or something to that effect. If this is what you are referring to, I think they just relabeled it.

I had good luck running Redline MTL in my '01 HO. Stay away from Royal Purple, it's too light and at least two guys I know of have fried their 5600s running RP and others have had problems.

I went with royal purple and I had issues with syncros, went back to the mopar fluid and it shifts great now!!

thanks for all the replies, not sure maybe I'll just stick to what I have until it blows up, and put nv45 in it.
