It appears I found a weak link in my NV5600 since the input shaft broke and took out the throw out bearing:doh: . Was wondering if there was a better input shaft to put in it. other than factory. Also what throw out bearing is the better to get?

There are a few pics attached, sorry for them not being too good, took with my phone.

Thanks for any and all help.

:Cheer:

any comments?

Also, what to look for in getting a new input shaft? Just get a import and go with it, or try to find a US made one?

Wow! I have an 01 with over 300,000 miles on it. Ive never heard of antyone snaping one of the large 5600 input shafts. The 2000 and newer 5600 use larger input shafts. Man what happened when that happened? Just wondering. I had to replace one in my buddy truck only because the tip that goes in the pilot bearing was worn down over 3/8 of an inch. He had 650,000 on it but never seen a snapped one.

When it finished itself off I was just turning out onto the road and going through the gears made it to 3rd and the truck lunged forward and motor revved with no load. I have drag raced the truck, but never been that rough on it, and tow with it a good bit. We forgot to check to make sure the trans was not locked up when we pulled it:doh:, but it rolled off the road in 3rd gear.

Now just trying to figure out what all I need to order and from where. The shafts range from 170 to 685. And so far no one knows what all comes with the shaft.:blahblah1:

This one is in a 03 with twin turbos, big injectors and lot of mods with a triple disc.It broke at the end of the shaft just replaced with new one and reassembled (its cheaper than nv4500 stock imput)

not enoughsmoke, where did you get the new shaft from? I am trying to decide where to get mine, don't won't something I have to worry about. But I have to get that front cover also, when the shaft broke it broke one side of the collar off.

I think you can get an input shaft from Southbend clutch.

They said that was a no go. There are all this great upgrades for the small shaft NV4500 and the small shaft NV5600, where is my upgrade?? Kinda wish I could slide a small shaft NV5600 upgrade into mine and let the good times roll.

Zumbrota or quad4x4 has them, as well as the bearing retainer. You will have disassemble the trans to replace it. You can get them in 1-1/4" and 1-3/8"

Yeah the bad thing is the input comes from the inside so the whole trans has to come apart. A friend of mine got his output from quad4x4 seems to be great so far.

Did not want to hear that the whole trans has to be disassembled to put the input in.

Thanks for the good words on quad4x4. Imported stuff bothers me sometimes, seems the imported stuff isn't built as well.

IntelligentEngineering.com or Opieparts.com one of those is the website. Been awhile since I looked there but I believe he sells inputs for those

Allstate Gear in Texas has the best prices I have found on NV parts. Have ordered several parts from them over the past couple years. Their shipping prices are great too.

Also, what is the better throw out bearing to get? I had a center force, are they pretty good or is there something better?

Well I was just asking, my dual disc came with a center force one, and just didn't know what was the better one.

Well, my input shaft is on the way to be Cryoed. Clutch disk are on the way, bearing retainer, bearings and seals are on the way. Hopefully it will get back together next week, and hope the Cryo was worth the money, we will see.
