Well story goes like this, I was rolling down the road in 6th when I heard a thunk, not real loud, but a thunk no less. Rounded a sharp corner and tried for 4th, couldnt get it and noticed the shifter was tough to move around. Got it in 5th and continued to stop sign. Took off in second, noticed more of a rattle than normal. Tried for 3rd and couldnt get it, tried 4th and couldnt get it, it was like 3-4 were in a bind, the shifter wouldnt move into their gates at all. Finally found 5th, lugged the crap out of it and kept going, but noticed a rattle still. Tried going for 6th and found a really bad rattle, like teeth missing from the gear. Limped it on home in 2nd and 5th. Backed it into the garage and tried to run through the gears. I got 3rd and 4th back after the short trip in reverse. Sitting with the transfer case in neutral I was able to row the gears and found that 1-5 are all there and working but have a rattle to them. 6th has the worst rattle, and reverse has a rattle like 1-5. Anybody care to guess what happened? I know there's a 5600 expert on here somewhere.

Anyone know of a good place to get an exchange unit? Hopefully one that does not cost an arm and a leg...

Well I got it torn out of the truck tonight. After peering down through the shifter hole, you can see there are some teeth stripped off what I believe to be 6th gear. They are not completely gone, but the tips are chipped off. Now its off to a local shop to see why it happened and how to fix it....

it'll be expensive............ freakin hard tranny to work on that's for sure, im putting a 5 speed eaton fs6305 in mine after i got a chance to get my hands on the guts of one of them nvg5600 trannys... freakin bad design if you ask me.

I would call Allstate Gear for parts. Cheapest place I found when I snapped my main shaft in my 5600. 800-577-1346

Thanks for the help guys. Local shop here has it so hopefully I can get it back next week sometime.
Round baler, what are you doing for a transfer case or is it 2wd?
