How would one Verify Protrusion? The only way I could think of is a Feeler gauge and a good straight edge. Seems kinda hoky and not very exact to me. any other way?

You can get a dial indicator and 0 it on the head surface and then move it the o-ring.

A good flat indicator base with a dial indicator works good. Or a wide base depth mic. I would not use calipers or a feeler gage.

Step mic would be the best, feelers and a straight edge would be my number two choice. I really don't like using a dial and mag base and moving it around. Or, get a good flat piece of key stock/parallels and use a depth mic. Feelers and straight edge is accurate and most people have those. Tapered feelers are best for measuring between the cylinders, since its only ~9mm between the rings and the feelers are wider than that. Just measure on the inside of the ring then.

Step Mic seems like a good Idea and for in between the cylinders with the tapered feeler.
I'm not a machinist by know means but, I want to know things are accurate!
