Six hooks at 60psi and the head is leaking coolant. Is it useless to try to retorque the head? I know fire rings will hold the pressure. How well will they hold up to daily driving?

I would check the protrusion on the oring.

You could try to retorque it, and see what happens, your not out anything if it doesn't work.

On the fire ring question, everyone I have talked to said they will crack. Just the nature of the fire ring, but I am on my 6th year and have 35,000 miles on the ones on my truck.

What head gasket did you put in oversized? and what brand?

when does it leak? hot, cold, running or not?

Mine seeped coolant after I would shut down as it cooled down. A couple retorques took care of it.

It didn't leak when warmed up or running though...

You're lifting the head with high combustion pressure... need more clamp load on the studs.

I have a thicker gasket on stand by. I'm going to try a re-torque to get me through the last to hooks of the season. I have some reservations about protrusion of the o-rings.

What are you doing about coolant block pressure?? Electric water pump,by pass, Nothing??

IKE

Nothing at the present time. I have a bypass for the rear of the block but it wouldn't fit with the adapter plate. I need to possibly do something at the rear plug in the side of the block.

What's your protrusion set at ?

I never checked it. I trusted the shop that did the work. What I noticed is what looked like inconsistencies in the protrusion.

First time Doug did my orings, they let go. He did a good job, but one little nick in a wire costed me a gasket. A retorque should work Kevin. I have my studs at 140lbs now.
