Odd results after HRVP install.

I recently installed an HRVP on my grandfathers 99, yes I have an awesome grandfather. Lol After installation I could not get it to fire. Had very weird combinations and pressures coming out of the fuel lines when I cracked them open. I would get fuel out of random lines with very little to no pressure what-so-ever. Out of frustration I removed it and put the junk stocker back on... It fired right up.

I've been pondering on this for the last few weeks and I have come to the conclusion that it was just a junk pump. Even though it was brand new.

So that being said. Has anyone experienced an issue like this after an install? Just looking for some sort of closure on this.

What fuse were you piggy backed into?

The 10 amp engine fuse is the only place to put them if not they shut off when turning the engine over. Just fixed a AD 150 that wouldnt start after install.

I was unaware that you had to piggy back them. Fuel pressure to the pump was just fine, coming out though, not so much. Lol

Most kits to supply a on/off supply they use a fuse to piggy back on for the key on and off motion. Did your kit have one? Or did the pump even turn on?

It was an II hot rod vp. Only thing in the box was the pump. Only difference i noticed was the shaft key was different.

LOL I had a hunch that we were talking about two different things. And I cant believe Im saying this but I totally didnt tap it. This was done in 2 hrs after work. I must have had a giant bowl of dumba** for breakfast for the last few weeks. I apologize.

Ah sh!t that was my bad. Long day today. Still sounds like the wiring issue though LOL

Glad to know im not the only one who can go completely brain dead at times. LOL Being a technician and then wrenching after work wears ya out and I tend to get lazy when I work on my own stuff.

So the verdict is?

Well Rick, the verdict is... Im a brain dead idiot and I forgot to tap the pump. LOL he's decided he doesnt need that pump so I'm planning on swapping him pumps. With the hopes that I dont forget something simple... again....

Tap the pump? As in for a fueling box? If you hot wired it it should have fired.. Heck, if you plugged it in it should have ran.

See thats what i thought... Do these pumps absolutely have to be "hot wired" to work properly? Excuse my ignorance on this fellas. This was the first hrvp I'd ever installed.

See this is where I'm at... I'm lost but I chalk that up to my ignorance and all I drive is my dinosaur. Heck my four wheeler has more electronics than my truck.

Never had to "wire them" just put them in plugged them in and hauled a$$

No "hot wiring" required. Assuming you are talking about tapping the pump. Sure you didn't shear the key on the way in? Most common vp install screw up. Otherwise make sure plug is on and seated properly. I have seen people thinking they have them connected correctly and don't. Also verify transfer pump pressure.

Hot rod pumps are no different. All it is, is a IPVR17X pump and map calibration with a 15x head.

Lol well this was exactly what I wanted to happen. Wish I could just convince him to let me ppump it and be done. This vp stuff irritates me sometimes, although, when they run right they're pretty fun.

Ok so just plug and play. Positive I didnt shear the key. I unplugged it and checked everything out. Plugged it back in and made sure it was a good connection. If I try again Ill be sure to check all of that stuff. Thanks for the help fellas.
