odd trans issue

what can cause a 48re to go in to tow/haul mode on its own?

cruising at 70, and the dash light for tow/haul came on and it kicked to 3rd, then went out, and back to 4th. any idea's? starting to wish i got a manual...

If you know someone with a monitor (scantool or diablo, etc.) it can show you the current internal sensor temp.
 
1st Id check fluid level warm in neutral on level ground and read the level from the lowest side of the stick. A slow leak over time could drop the level enough.

Agreed, and these sticks can be finicky, I seem to pull the stick 10 times before I'm satisfied with what it reads.

this is what i was leaing toward, because its only done it in "hot" scenario's.

fluid was changed 400 miles ago, old fluild was burned at only 7k miles. New fluid seemed to fix the issue for till recently and seemed to fix the random TC lockup issue, looks like i need to figure out why its getting hot...

what sensor/location?
