Oil drain issues

I have a gt3788r turbo off my old duramax. I thought it would be a nice upgrade for my 92 first gen, but when I went to put it on the oil inlet and outlet is clocked off center an inch or so. Is it ok to run this way? I've been told that the oil will not drain out of the turbo correctly and cause it to build up then blow the seal and dumping into the intake. Is this correct or you think it will be alright? The center section isn't clockable.

should be able to loosen up the housing and center the main turbo, then tighten up the housings again, and it should be in the middle.

The exhaust housing is solidly mounted to the center section with four bolts, you can only clock the compressor housing on the center section. I just want to be sure it won't hurt it as this turbo wasn't very cheap.

ive never seen a turbo that cant be clocked.

loosen the bolts and clock it.

post pics too.

I installed that exact turbo on my truck yesterday, read the directions that came with it, it states "oil outlet (largest hole) must be at the bottom with the center hole not more than 35 degrees from vertical". The bolt holes in mine easily allowed this; mine's probably 10 or 15 degrees from true vertical, works great! This is using an ATS 2nd gen. manifold upside down.

some have a few bolt holes to choose from, take the bolts out rotate as close as possible to vertical if this is the case

if it only has 4 bolts as he stated it does it will move in 90° increments

he said its only off "an inch" so it will prolly be fine

Yes, four bolts but 12 bolt holes to choose from, close enough is easily achieveable (within 35 degrees).

I wouldnt run it with the drain an inch off center. I would get it as close to center as possible, then again I think most aftermarket turbos are expensive items to replace.

are you using a stock manifold?
i ran a gt3788r on my truck with no problem and oil drain was slightly off vertical, ball bearing turbos require an oil restrictor, make sure the turbo still has it restrictor or the seals will blow out. heres what mine looked like, is this how your is?

Thanks for all the replies. The thing that makes this hard is that it is the turbo from the powermax kit for a dmax. It only has four bolts in the exhaust housing to choose from. My buddy has the powermax kit on his dodge and it has the twelve holes to choose from for clocking it. We even tried one of his exhaust housings but my turbo has a bigger exhaust wheel in it so it wouldn't fit. I am just wondering about having it off center, I thought about maybe seeing if a machine shop can redrill it for me at the right position but i'm afraid the machine shops around here would just mess it up.

Daithi it is a stock manifold and it looks like it is about as far off center as yours is. I guess if your not having any issues I should probably be alright I guess.
