Basically what the title says.... I'm wondering if the oil bypass filters are worth it? I'm looking at the FS-2500 for my 95 12v. It's $500, but it seems to work wonders. I searched oil bypass and looked at five pages of threads, to no avail. Just wondering your thoughts on this product. Is it worth me spending $500? Right now I change the oil every 3000 miles and it's black. It's be nice to know the filter really is 99.9% efficient like the bypass kit advertises. The cleaner the oil, the healthier and longer lasting the motor is IMHO.

Thanks for your insight fellas

i change the oil in my trucks every 5000 miles and we do the same with our equipment fleet at work. equipment gets it every 250 hrs and trucks get it every 5000 miles. after the first couple oil changes its black. never have had an issue. i dont know if its worth the money or not, just like synthetic oil. they say you dont have to change it because it never breaks down but everyone still changes the oil and filter.

trucks have gone a million miles using the stock filter base. i think the $500 could be better spent

I run the Amsoil dual bypass but the fact is it's a diesel...the oil is always gonna be black.

I see it as being similar to you changing your oil at 3000 miles. It's not all bad, but it's also not needed unless you're running in some sort of extremely harsh environment.

Agreed.

I run one but its on HEUI. I can tell a difference.

I would recommend the spinner, I have an amsoil, and I thing the spinner would be better as it removes the carbon. If you must have a bypass get a frantz oil filter I here nothing but good about them. I may add the spinner to my truck and keep the amsoil as well.

For the price I think oil samples are better: Blackstone Labs I feel better knowing how well my engine is wearing than knowing my oil is being filtered well.

If you are shooting for a million miles+ get both. But for the rest of us a performance rebuild usually comes first anyways.

I run an Amsoil bypass makes me feel good.

How long are you guys running your bypass filters? Six months, a year? Miles?

My logic says running them to the point where the are almost clogged would be best for filtering.

Any way to measure how much restriction a filter has?

i built my own bypass setup, cost about $150. Its worth it if you drive lots of miles i think, if not you should be changing oil every 3 or so months anyways.

the filter is a LFP9750 iirc, holds 4L of oil but is supposed to be good for 75000Miles, so just spin it off, dump the oil and reuse until its there

When you say spinner, are you referring to a centrifuge? If so I can't see the super small particles of carbon, carried in oil being spun fast enough to seperate them out on an oil filter system that mounts on our trucks and doesn't use an external pump. Just my opinion.

My dad once bought a KW that the original owner had a spinner on. We removed it because it was noisy and the hoses were leaking oil. However it did keep the oil clean enough that it was noticeable. I'm a fan of synthetic oil, quality filters and 5k service intervals!

Thanks for the input guys.

Its very tempting, especially when watching their video [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klcBRnyCSvo"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klcBRnyCSvo[/ame]). Thing is, I only drive 6-7000 miles a year. I'd probably be saving one oil change a year. I'm not wanting to do this to "save money." I want to do this because of the wear protection it provides for the motor. Kinda makes me think my motor will run "forever" if I do this simple $500 mod. You need to change their filter every oil change (oil change intervals are extended drastically though), but the change seems clean and easy. I just don't know what to do. I'm gona be building the truck soon, so I'd like to do it while I'm in there, ….if I decide to do it. Thanks again men!

Keep in mind that engines create condensation. Driving a diesel 5k only per year could potentially do more damage than driving it 50k per year. There is a reason engine makers recommend oil change intervals based on miles/1year...which ever come first.

I just bought this filter and base, it freaking huge! Right around 100 bucks online. I can't wait untill I have time to install it. I also have frantz bypass too.

yea i got them locally, filter was expensive, like $115! If i bought a case(6) it would be $80 per filter
