Oil in the egr cooler?

I pulled out the egr out of my 2004 and found there was a gunky oily form down in the bottom of the oil cooler. i believe thats what it is called. The actually egr wasnt to dirty and the spring still seemed to be ok. I shook it around a little and there was a clunking in there. Is that normal? we cleaned it in carb cleaner like i was told to but i didnt see and difference but also it didnt look to bad? any help thanks, zack

Comes from the mixing of the crankcase vent and the exhaust being reintroduced to the intake side.
