Im having a problem with an oil leak on my truck. It started with the vent bottle getting a hole in it. It poured oil everywhere. I fixed that with a baby bottle and a zip tie attached to the front cover bolt. Now i have found that it still leaks around the front cover. There is a line of fairly fresh oil around the entire perimeter of the cover. All the bolts are tight. No leak at the tappet cover or the vaccuum pump/ps pump. Oil pan is tight and doesnt have any real leaks. What all does it take to seal that up? Anything else i should do while its that far apart? Truck is an 02.

do you have studs? clean off the area in front around where the head meets the block and get it hot/ run it. I bet its seeping oil out between the head and the block.

Mine was leaking here. Replaced HG. Front cover leaked. Replace seal. Now the oil pan leaks. New gasket new Thrusday.

If you can figure out how to keep an '02 from leakin, PLEASE post up. LOL

I just call it "external lubrication" and drive. :D

Did you leave the baby bottle a breather hole? I've had folks tie a catch can on the breather that actually plugs off any breathing the breather was supposed to provide. That causes oil leaks every time.

This winter I fixed my friends 2001. Bad oil leak. Though it was the front crank seal. After I tore it apart it turned out to be the front cover. Pulled that off, cleaned it and put new RTV on, slapped it back together and no more leaks.

Stock up on several cans of brake clean before you start.

Check where front case meets block just under the water pump, that's where mine was leaking, it looked like it was coming from everywhere else but there though..

The factory 02 breather bottle has holes in it, you are supposed to drain it every time you change oil, do not seal up engine, it will force oil out of every place it can.

I FIXED IT! Sealed up the cover, replaced crank seal. Also an oil change from crap royal purple to delo. New wix filters. Anyways, i also noticed i was getting a lot of blow by. So i ran the factory vent and i drilled the valve cover and ran 2 hoses all to a catch can with a drain petcock. I baffled the valve cover vents. Results? Not a single drop on the ground, and just barely an oil residue in the can. About 500 miles so far...

Yes. It has the hoses running in the top pointing to the bottom. Then has a big hole on top with a k&n motorcycle filter. Filter is clean after a thousand miles. At night with a flashlight you can see a slight haze coming out of the filter. So its venting the gas, but not putting the oil on the ground. Slight oil residue at the bottom of the can.
