Down the road a bit I'd like to do a mild build for my truck. I have the original engine from my '89 just sitting in the corner. It's got 500k on it and ran like a SOB when I pulled it. What are the pros and/or cons to using the older long block for the build? My thoughts are that I could have the build 90% completed and just pull my 96 engine and swap over the necessities on a long weekend, thereby not having my truck down for too long. The '89 engine has a 7mm head from Alabama Cylinder Head with less than 100 miles on it. I've heard the older castings were stronger, etc etc, but not sure if there's any truth to that...
