Was at the shop today and they had a new 6.4 with 24000 on the clock with the motor out. High Pressure Fuel pump was making a ton of noise. Started taking it apart, and it was full of brass shavings. WTF? had an international rep come out to look, and he insisted that it be torn down to a short block. Took the heads off, and when they did found this:

turns out whoever built the motor left out the clamp on one side of the wrist pin and it walked out to the side. OOOOOOPS!

Oopsy...LOL
Too bad that little mistakes like that cost IH and Ford tons of $$$

wonder if they can track the guy who built it and discipline him?

Saw that on a dirt bike once. Seems a production enviroment would be pokayoked to not allow simple mistakes like this to happen.

11,000.00 for the motor and almost 16,000.00 for total repair/replacement. The engine comes directly off the assembly line "COMPLETE".
Ask me how I know.
Mine, '08 6.4 was in the shop for 17 days. The #8 cylinder collapsed due to the lifters breaking off in the head.

Thats the cleanest diesel tech I have ever seen.

Michael is, shall we say, articulate! All nuts, bolts and small items go in cups. All related items go in one area only. It is quite impressive how he does it. But with all the dang parts on it I can see why he is that way. One misplaced item and I will be the owner of a new motor with three left over parts.
