I am no expert. I am a guy with a lot of automotive background. But relatively new to the diesel world. I will present the info the best I can.

So, I have an 85 f350. I know the truck looks rough. But I actually just spent the last few months welding in new floor pans, a pillar, b pillar, cab corners. 4 rust free doors. All the good northeast pa stuff.

I dropped in a rebuilt 12v from a schoolbus. I bought the engine and trans already assembled. So I really only know what he told me and what I actually did myself.
Specs:
12v
11mm industrial p-pump
17* time
60lb valve springs
4k springs
3" into 4" exhaust
Marine pistons and matching 275 horse inj.
Previous owner ground fuel plate and gutted afc
I have run an hx35 and wh1c overspooled both to the point of failure. currently I am running a hx35/40 hybrid. WITH functioning wastegate.
Trans is a g56 from rolled over 2007 dodge.
3.55 gears
33" tires
To-be intercooled.

I have scoured the interwebs for info on the turbo I just bought. I would like some live input.
I recently bought an HTT (high tech turbo) turbo.
It's a borgwarner
The sizing is 64/65/13
It's stainless and wastegated.
It seems like a very nice unit

It has some thrust play. So I was Planning to have it rebuilt. at a cost of $400.
For $600 they will rebuild and put a different size compressor wheel and housing on for me.
I really just want to be sure of what size wheel I should run on this turbo. If I should run it at all?
My truck is a toy but also I need it to work and stay cool. I do a lot of towing with it. I can make 12-1500* pretty easy. It was never like that until I got the 35/40 hybrid.

If this turbo isn't what I'm looking for I'll sell it and get the right one. I don't care. I had my mind set on having a wastegate bc I was able to peg the gauge with the hx35 and wh1c. And that's most likely how I ruined them. But the 35/40 barely makes 40psi.
Thank you in advance.

I never liked the 64/65/13 I had. Surged really bad. Was told it's because the compressor size is too close to the turbine size. Resize it to a 62 comp or get the exhaust size machined for a larger wheel

What was performance like otherwise? Laggy at all? Smoky? From what I gather this turbo is meant for a 3rd? Gen.

The worst turbo ever in my opinion I had mine cut for the 68 turbine and now I love it
Or like mentioned above buy a 62 wheel and cover and use that on the charger I did that too for a while with the 68 turbine

Maybe I'll just grab a box charger then that I can just bolt on. I got all starry eyed over the stainless and the wastegate. Shoot first ask questions later kinda deal

For 600 get it rebuilt with the 62mm compressor. Alot of guys say that a 62/65/12 is one of the best all around turbos on a 12v. Plus you would get to keep that nifty stainless housing.

62-65-13 actually. An that's probably what I'll do. I love the stainless part and I'll be upgrading to a 4" downpipe.
If I make the swap I'll be selling my "brand new" 35/40 hybrid.
It's a new chra and exhaust housing with the used compressor wheel and housing from an hx40.
Thank for your input gman

Good choice on a 62. Get the ss housing polished. It turns a nice gold shade after a few heat cyclesuploadfromtaptalk1433513739400.jpg
