Orings and cylinder head corrosion..

So I pulled my head off and I was cleaning it up. It looks like there is corrosion (pitting) on the outside of the orings. In some of the pics you can see outlines of the fire ring from the head gasket. Does it look like my head is toast? I would imagine that the head should still retain the full clamping force since the pitting is on the outside of the orings.


Anyone ever seen this before?

Did you have the head decked before doing the rings? looks like mine did before I oringed it.
 
The pitting will increase the chance of oil and/or coolant leakage... cylinder pressure shouldn't be affected.

What does the block look like?
 
The block was surfaced before the orings. I did break about 2 or 3 studs (random arp breakage) but never thought I lost the headgasket. The deck on the block looks nasty but does not share any of the pitting with the head. I will snap a pic when I get home. I am getting ready to mill off the plenum and didnt know if I should even reuse this head...
 
By the way,all of the pitting is on the outside of the orings. I used a paper towel to wipe down the head after blasting it and some of the fibers are stuck to the head. It kind of looks like there is corrosion all over but its just the towel.
 
Did the O-Ring crush in the center of the fire ring of the gasket ?

The O-ring looks like it crushed the outside of the fire ring. I would say the outer 75% . It is the same on everyone one though...
