Guys I have a 4 cylinder B series, naturally aspirated in my wheel loader. Cummins calls for 10w-30 oil for temps between -10 to 68 degrees. For temps between 10 degrees and 110 you step up to a 15w-40 oil. I live in Wisconsin and we'll see temps between -5 and 100. Obviously neither oil will cover the entire temp range. Cummins suggested a oil change at the season change, but I'm not putting enough hours on the machine to justify the cost. I was wondering if maybe the magic oil would be 10w-40. A mix of cold flow and warm break down protection. Thoughts?

I think you will be perfectly fine running a 15w-40, just make sure your API Ratings are correct to your specifiactions. But.....if its worth it to you, there are plenty of synthetic 5w-40 oils out there that would be perfect for your application...... CG, CH, CI, are the better ratings, stay away from CJ, it tends to lack the zinc needed for metal to metal contact and bearing life...
