My truck has a 160hp pump on it, im about to purchase a couple school buses with 12 valves in them. Basically im pulling all the useful stuff out of them and junking the rest. My question is would a 190hp pump be a good upgrade or not for my truck? The info on the bus is CPL 1261 and the last numbers on the pump are 810. I am by no means a P pump expert, ive found a little info on the 190hp pump but someone said it has less lift??? then the 215 pump. Noone said anything about how it compares to a 160 pump. Im redoing my whole engine bay this winter IE repairing my hacked up firewall, smaller injectors, bigger turbo, and some other odds and ends. Thanks for any input or advice!

Stick with your 160hp pump, the bus pump should have the same cam, but it also probably has the "notched" plungers will will cause fill time and dynamic timing issues in the upper rpm's.

Are the notched plungers the plungers that are supposed to be more emission friendly? If it doesnt have the notched plungers what would make it 190hp? Different DVS??

Yes, they are the emission friendly style plungers. It could have different dv's or it could have constant pressure valves instead of dv's. There are also minor differences in the governor, but nothing noteworthy. Different fuel and timing specs change the horsepower rating as well.

if its like the one i got a few years back then yes seth is correct it has the notched plungers and has 131 DV's in it. last time i looked up the CPL on the pump it came back as a 160 pump set up just different plungers.
