P Pump

So exactly whats involved in doing a p pump conversion? What else needs to be changed and is it a weekend project or longer? Is it mainly done for pulling or racing? Just curious because I've heard about it and I'm not too thrilled with my vp considering what I plan on doing to my truck. Thanks
