Planning on the turbo swap this weekend. Thinking about painting the OEM manifold. Suggestions on paint and process? I'd like to clean up this dirty ass looking down pipe too (Thanks CSynder!)

The ideal process would be one were the paint dries in a few hours, not days.

get some dry graphite spray and use that or bbq paint. They hold up to the heat very well

I found some Extreme Temp rattle can flat black at O'Rielys rated for like up to 2200 or so, I painted my HTT manifold with many thin coats then cranked the engine and let idle a few minutes for a few cycles and it seems to like bake it on, with 2 trips to the track it still looks very good?

I have a can of primer, flat black and clear.

the curing instructions are vague, Do I have to heat up the primer, then color then clear? or can I apply all three (after each dries) then when I fire up the truck for the heat, let that do the curing all at once?

I personally would heat cure each step. It gives each layer a chance to out gas and bake a little before applying another layer. $.02

I would think the clear would be a bad idea, every time ive seen clear used around heat it starts to yellow and get grundgy looking pretty fast. Just a thought, I like the way this flat black looks very well, if it just holds up?

Well, my goal here is to same day things, and I'm not going to paint the manifold on the truck. I think I found a place that can sand blast the exhaust manifold same day for me if I get it there first thing in the morning for $40.

As for the "gassing out". interesting. didn't think of that. Should I just skip the primer and clear and go right for color? This way, it will "cure" while on the truck.

Down pipe

I just did the flat black, nothing else. I'll return the primer and clear.

After 3 coats, it looks NICE. I'll sit in the basement for the rest of the week. unfortunately, I'll have to be a in a hurry with the exhaust manifold.

It should look 10 times better then stock went this is all installed. ;-)

I am thinking of doing this as well, for everything DP back to the elbow for the stack. I had some of the cheap TSC high temp paint on my "U" for the stacks in the bed before I took them out to sell and it still looked good.

JUST got the turbo spinning last Friday. It helped up to 1200 degree-ish on the pre-turbo pyro. so far. :)

I did not paint the manifold due to time constraints. I may do it when I pull the turbo again this weekend.

I just wrapped and painted my DP, now I think I may do the manifold before putting the turbo back on.....

Some ceramic coating shops will do good work pretty fast. There is a local one here that will do it in 3days turn around time and they are very reasonable on prices too. I paid $130 for my equal length header inside and out and turbo compressor.

I originally used some cheap ceramic paint from oreillys that said it was good up to 1800*, I used it for 3000 miles on my hy35's turbine housing and it held up well although I never saw over 1200* egt's.
