Does anybody have any tips or suggestions to get this M'fer of a seal in the damn axle??:bang I'm helping my brother do seals on both sides and new ball joints......got everything done but the damn passenger side seal and it's KICKING MY ASS!

I've done plenty on Jeeps, but never on a Dodge and quite frankly this thing is a piece of CHIT. Anybody got any helpful ideas?? We tried using a piece of all thread with a socket on the end, basically a make shift slide hammer. It gets the seal started but every time it ends up pulling the bottom of the seal farther than the top. I quit about 1am this morning cuz I was loosing all patience with it.

What's worked for you guys?? TIA

Take your piece of all thread and use it as a press rather than a hammer, might work better.

We would, but I think the all thread might start to bend if we pressed on it....I'll give it a shot though. I have enough extensions that I could use those to drive it in possibly, the only problem is I have to pull the drivers side all back apart. My brother got in a hurry last night before I got there and put the carrier and the drivers side axle shaft back in!

Get a frost plug that fits snug inside the seal and then drill a hole in the center of it for your threaded rod. you can then use the threaded rod to pull the seal in.

Ahh good call......I was gonna say I've never heard of a frost plug

Frost plug , freeze plug same diff. I guess people call them different things in different parts of the country.

Good idea though.....I'll see if I can round one up tonight and give it a shot! Thanks for the tip

We tried a big washer last night and it was just a TAD bit to small and ended up getting it pulled in crooked. I might swing by Lowes and see if I can find one that'll fit it perfect

I used a piece of exhaust tubing I had laying around and welded a piece across the top so I had something to hit on. Slid a pipe down the driver's side tube and wacked it in with a a hammer. Too bad your not around here cause I kept the installer I made in case I have to do another one.
