Need a little help on how this goes...

It looks like I need to press the gear off the stock cam and then press it on to the PDR cam... the bolt is used just to retain the gear?

Any tricks or tips to pressing off the stock gear? Likewise with installing the gear on the new shaft?

What is the torgue spec for the cam gear retaining bolt?

????

:bang

put the cam in the freezer for a couple hours and put the gear in the oven for a hour or so and it should drop right on

Put the gear in the oven when its off. Turn it up to 250 and the gear will heat up with the oven. Then let it sit in there for about 30 min. Just put the cam in the freezer. Some times it slides right one, or might need a little bit of pressing.

Please don't use a torch Mark!!
I am pretty sure Brad Ponci posted the Cummins install instructions awhile back try a search!
There was a rash of cam gear problems a few years back, both coming off and broken!

I had an automotive machine shop press off the gear, and press it back on the new cam. They did it while I waited (5 min) and didn't even charge me. The bolt is usually 42lbs. IIRC then torque to yield (1/2 a turn more). My colt cam retaining bolt had the torque spec stamped on the bolt head.

OK... no torch! Sounds like we got some came gears too hot and caused them to be brittle?

So I'm now in search of a press... I bet the little woman just loves me!

Now there's a simple idea..... Thanks!
