When we redesigned the new 181/210 core. The main focus was trying to make the cam live under the most extreme conditions possible. We did a couple of things to accomplish this- wider lobes, thicker core, radiused edges on many vital parts of the cam and a bolt on retainer.
The cam works best with 24v and common rail tappets. They have a much wider face that takes full advantage of the wide surface area of the lobe. With the low zinc oils on the market, it is important to make sure when you are putting our core in your 12v, truck that you use 24v tappets.
What tappets to use in each year.
03-08 use common rail tappets (if truck has more than 50,000 mile inspect before re-use)
98.5-02 Use 24v tappets( if truck has more than 50,000 miles inspect before re-use) Only use Common rail tappets if you use the fuel pump port to inspect for any clearance issues with the fuel pump eccentric on number 5
1989-1998 12v- use 1998.5-2002 tappets. They have more surface area, which provides much greater protection, and are much lighter than the CR tappets.
I will post up the part numbers in the next day or so for new tappets, or if you have used ones and you want them re-faced, you can call Geoff at 1-604-856-3571.
