Just wanting some opinions on experiences with porting both intake and exhaust sides of the head with commonrails. Thinking about opening some things up. thanks Jay

anybody with experiences? I am considering this with my build. Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks, jay

Use a head from an 06-07 to start with. bigger/better ports

One of these days I plan on taking a 12V, 24V, early CR and late CR heads and to a complete flow bench comparrison before and after porting. Hopefully be able to compare the basic porting with the stock casted manifold and both the ZZ fab style manifold and some type of tubular log style manifold. Haven't seen this done yet, so maybe I will be the first and be able to shed some light on some interested minds.

I am planning on doing an 03 motor and dropping it in my 04.5 truck, what kinda issues will I run into with the wiring etc? I am changing to an 03 electronics, which is the big reason, no 3rd event, much simpler to get HP out of. I plan on staking the valve seats anyhow. Jay

we are runnin an 07 CR head on our race motor so far so good. 9.57@139mph fuel only.

when I pulled off my 04.5 head, some of the seats were really loose. My machinist pressed in larger seats that seem to be a much tighter fit.

When the machinist installs the valve seats somehow they attach them to the head instead of just pressing them in, I am not real sure how though. I will be talking to some machinists in the next couple of weeks and finding out the minute specifics to these things. Jay

Ported mine with custom intake, made 948 on a single 2.8 charger so I think its doin me some good. Best previous # was 805 but I also changed injs and went to 03 electronics as well so actual hp gain I am not sure of. I dropped about 10psi of boost so it is flowing more for sure.

What year head?

My truck has an '05 head (IIRC) with a mild port job by Mumau Diesel in PA, really it was just a mild pocket porting and the exhaust side was gasket matched.

You might remember my dyno run at TS...I would say it will flow enough air for you and since you can control the fuel better than I can you would be pretty well off. :Cheer:

Scott, this isn't for the motor currently in my truck, it is for a little special project I am starting. :) But, thanks, I appreciate everyone's input, I have a lot of decisions to make, but it is fun as hell. Jay
