ok so I got this 215 pump 24v motor and I feel like it needs some timing. its got hellacious low end but falls on its face on the top end. it has 4gsk and no fuel plate, so im thinkin I might be hittin too much rack travel very quickly and retarding the timing. when accelerating it feels like a 7.3 with a hpop that cant keep up, pedal feels the same at half as it does to the floor. don't get me wrong it runs great, but I need more top end than that lol. my question is what is a rule of thumb to go by for timing a ppump 24v? The pump was rebuilt by enterprise diesel, whether it was built specifically for a ppump 24v or to whatever specs a 215 is normally set at, im not sure.
iirc a stock 215 is between 13-14* btdc, but would a 24v even run right with that little timing? Im just trying to get a good idea of how much timing to add based on what I may have already. if its worth anything, the timing pin lines up at tdc, but I know a shop can set a pumps timing and Id never know. also, would leaking ex man gaskets have THAT much of an effect on top end performance? im still pushin 35-40 psi of boost on an he351cw so I cant see it making that big of a difference but ill do whatever I gotta do to get it right.
