Just got word from my buddy that’s a Ford Mechanic that Ford is having a problem with the fuel tanks in Superdutys with a 6.4L Powerstroke. The galvanized coating on the inside was poorly done on some tanks. On these tanks the coating is flaking off and plugging the fuel filters causing problems. If this problem arises Ford is replacing the tanks.......Just FYI......:thankyou2:

I was always told not to put diesel in a galvanized tank. Wonder if it was for this reason or if the diesel reacts somehow with the zinc....or maybe just a wive's tale.

Is there anyway to make the tank fill better? When it stops the pump I can still get 5+ gallons in there, have to wait for it to foam down obviously but can this be fixed?

If the tank is the same as the 99-07 body style, you can do what is called "harpooning" the tank.

Drop the tank, remove the sending unit then stick your arm inside and cut the vent tubes to about 1/2". I also cut the one that extended from the filler tube..

A hose cutter makes quick work of the plastic tubes and makes a nice clean cut.
