This has been going on for a while now ,thought I could fix it but. Here goes eng. is slugesh when shifting gears rpm drop like a rock,before you can shift from 3rd to 4th it has fallen all the way to idle.When coming to red light you kick it in neutral, rpm will fall below 600 then surge up and down a couple times if you have A/C on it will almost die. Put new APPS on yesterday no help, had eng. scanded and it says the cam sensor is not working so replaced, still says not working. Unpluged the Edge Ez and no help. Vp is about 2 years old and been running two stroke.

No crank sensor on a 01.

Got any codes in the system?
 
No codes, and it is a new cam sensor,just no reading. You should get some kind of reading right? I dont know any more about to throw a VP44 at it . Or a ecm.My thought is the ecm reads the cam sensor.
 
Yes sir tach works. I sometimes have a rump rump rump once it starts this it will do it maybe 10 times. And everytime you give it a little rpm when it is idleing down, right as it is about to idle it will give a little rev. up. It will do this everytime. I here the common rails do this because of the high fuel pressure.I am not sure but it seems to smoke a little more but I just put 5inch stacks so maybe just me. A little more info ,I put new 75hp inj. in it a while back and it started about the same time,but I think this is a coensidence because I pulled those and had my RV275's rebuilt and put them in and no change. I really appreciate any help yall can give,I am about to throw in the towel.
 
Ok silly question.

How clean are the connections at the battery?
 
Never use grease as it wicks between the terminals and causes a bad connection.

Use a product called NOCO . You can find it at any Napa or Carquest stores.

If you have a early build date there are some that have them. Normally before 10/00 which Dodge would consider a 01 anything past June build date of 00 .
 
If you have a new cam sensor, and still no signal to the computer, ohm the wiring between the two. If the wiring checks good (low ohm reading) you have a computer problem. Just because it's uncommon don't mean it's impossible. IMO.
 
The computer gets the crankshaft position info from the Camshaft Position Sensor located below the VP44 on the '01's.

Checked into cam sensor and it is reading at cranking speed. Would having ECM reflashed help you think? It has to be a timing issue,do you think it would be vp44? Truck will not throw a code.

there was something on here about a star scan that the dealers could do if they did that it should have picked up everything. 2nd was the truck acting up when they hooked the computer up to it
 
So it does not have any codes when u do the key trick? Do u have a fuel pressure guage?
