Hey guys. I am a little new to these electronic trucks. I have a 2000 Ram 3500 4x4 6-speed. I bought a used Smarty for the truck a couple months ago and after a ton of work i just got to programming the truck.
I followed the instructions for programming the truck on the back of the Smarty but the programmer is not communicating with the truck. I plug the programmer in, switch the key on and the programmer keeps having me switch the ignition on and off after I select which operation I want to do.
I emailed Smarty a while ago and they told me to take out the ABS fuse and make sure the batteries were putting out 12 volts. Which I did all of this and nothing. I cleaned the OBD-II port and that had no effect. I also cleaned up the ground from the computer on the passenger side to the firewall. None of this made a difference.
Any help or ideas as to how I could get my Smarty to work? The guy I bought it from said it was not vin locked!
Thanks

Do you happen to have a code reader or scan tool you can plug into the obd port? If you plug in a code reader and it works right then I would say it is in the smarty and not the truck.

I had a super chips that would read and clear codes but not load into computer..
It worked fine on my buddies truck and the guys I sold it to. Might be a comm error of sorts

I will have the local auto parts store try their scanner on it tomorrow. Would it help if I had Dodge flash the computer?

I wouldn't think you would need Dodge to flash the comp for you unless it has had a program or something flashed to it that is still in there.

Do you have a buddy with a truck like yours you can try the smarty on and see if it will work on his?

Yes my uncle has a truck that he destroyed the trans in that I can try programming.

If I am able to program his truck can I swap computers? Even of mine is a 6-speed and his is an automatic?

The ECM won't communicate with the rest of the truck. Your dash will look like a Christmas tree.

I do believe I ran into this problem before. We bout a used smarty for a vp truck was told he had it on his vp truck and worked fine. Went to try it out and same thing your having. Key on key off no comm. so we called him and made sure it was off his truck and he said he thought the smartys would interchange from CR to VP so I would double check to make sure u have the right one and what they^^^ said try a scan tool and if no comm. it's the truck. If you pull something up it's the smarty

Thanks man, but it is most certainly a VP Smary. The serial number sticker on the programmer itself begins with S03.
Going to try a scanner on it tomorrow and try programming another truck with the programmer.

Well tried my smarty on my uncles truck today. It worked perfectly fine on his truck. I am lost as to what to do. All I can think of is to clean all the grounds from the batteries up.
Anything?

Check the IOD fuse. if that is bad you will not have power to connect the smarty, it also affects some other things in the cab like the 12v power outlet.

Was not able to try the scanner on the truck this weekend.

IOD fuse was not blown. Took it out checked it and put it back in and still nothing.

Still haven't tried a scanner on the truck yet. Started going over some of the wiring today, just to see. Found that come through the firewall to the under good fuse box that had been cut. It is a brown and yellow wire. As far as I can tell it goes to a 20 amp power outlet. Going to get the wore fixed tomorrow and try it out.

Kinda difficult to see but here is a picture.

So went pulling with it last night, completely bone stock. Didn't do too bad but could have most definitely used the tuner.

Tried a scanner on it this morning. Couldn't communicate with the truck either. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this model year? It's a 2000 ram 3500 6-speed.
