OK i need some advise, I'm in a pickle over spending money. $1000 for a new SO vp pump or swap in a running $1000 160hp 12v or buying the $1000 160hp 12v and stealing parts to do a P-Pump 24v. I have a 2001.5 cummins with a fire ringed head. Its set up as a 2.5 puller/weekend warrior/daily driver/tows a 4 horse gooseneck trailer hauler. As of 3 weeks ago, it had 530hp/1150tq. list of goodies are 90hp injectors, 62SPS, quadzilla, and now a SHOT II HRVP44. So do i buy a SO VP for $1000 and call it good for maybe another 25k miles or swap in a 12v or p-pump mine from the parts from the 12v and sell the block and head when I'm done with it. My plans are to make the truck a dedicated 2.8 puller some day when the economy gets better and i get a job. I don't know squat about 12v pumps. what would it cost to make my p-pumped 24v run 500hp again. Also what other parts and cost will i need besides the 12v donor motor?

thanks

If i ever p pump mine, it will get a 12v head too.

I would just do the 12V.

You will need a 98 12V engine harness and ECM to make the dash work. Few little misc parts on the throttle/trans kickdown part.

If you made 530hp on 90hp injectors, I would have that VP44 bronzed and retire the truck.

I thought there were extra passages on the 24v head that are not on the 12v head?

How do you plug/take care of those?

Huh.

I thought you had to have a hole(s) punched to run a 12v gasket on the 24v head... Are they not fluid transfer, just alignment?

Thought you were talking about external holes.

Your thinking about a CR head to a non-CR block. Those have to be modified, one is a coolant passage.

I will vouch for his dyno record and if you search around on a few different forums it is documented on the caulk boards at dyno events. His last HRVP had some sort of wild glitch that caused it to seize up even though he is running a good fuel system.

Kevin, stay away from a 160 pump if you are looking to go bigger someday with a dedicated pull truck. It would work for now to make 500 with a set of DV's and a decent GSK but anything over 4 GSK will require a set of Titanium keepers if you want it to last without a huge gamble. Proper AFC tuning will also be neccessary along with having your sticks set for a P7100 and a set of lines made to fuel it.

His HRVP was also one of the very first ones II built and IIRC it was swapped in during an event and laid down an extra 142 or 147 HP with no other things changed besides the pump.
