Who is the person to contact about that? Looking about putting the puller on its own policy. Anybody know about what they paid?

What are you looking for it to cover? Just when its on the trailer on the way there? In the shop between pulls? You looking for more coverage for aftermarket parts?

Well the aftermarket parts thing would be sweet, but I don't think that will happen. Just looking for coverage on the trailer, liability at the pulls, theft, etc, possibly if I have it on the street or something like that.

Dan, I spoke with my agent about it a few weeks ago for the puller. He recommended plain liability coverage and he made sure my policy would cover it while in tow, etc...

I have full coverage on mine, and covers all aftermarket parts. Talk to my insurance and said i put maybe 3000 miles a year on the truck, i pay $130 a month for it! And i am a high risk driver! Was kinda stupid back when i was younger

Its Geico in anyone is interested

Wow $1500 per year.

around there i pay $212 a month but i have a car also! Total is like $2500 or so a year!

I have my 06 Dodge puller/ drag truck/ also fairly offen on the road that was insured with Country Companies were I have had all of my vehicles covered for 12 years. I competed in Pinks all out at Indy this year and the local newspaper did an article on it. The following Monday I recieve a call from my agent asking if the 06 dodge I was drag racing was the one they had insured. Well long story short, they will not cover it when it is being used for competition on the drag strip or pulling track. No liability coverage nothing during competition, only when I am street driving it, its on the gooseneck trailer, or at the shop. They supposidly check and said they had no possible coverage while it is in competition.

So, I am still looking for coverage if anyone has a suggestion.

I've tried to figure out ways to limit my personal liability but never came up with a good answer.

If the worst happens and your truck comes unglued and tosses parts into the stands, I would imagine everyone will get sued: the promoter/sanctioning body, the track, the truck owner, and the truck operator.

Assuming no one did anything intentionally, a civil suit will be filed.

The promoter has event insurance so he is covered to some extent.

The truck owner and operator would get nailed if they could show that you were negligent in some way. This would be easy for a good lawyer, since most guys I know don't inspect every part before each hook, and wouldn't have the means to do it anyway, or the documentation showing it (and what standards apply?). Think FAA inspection-level stuff.

We all know that we stretch every part in these things to well beyond the original design limits so the plaintiff's lawyer would have a field day.

So I'm not so much worried about the truck, it's what the truck does on the track that worries me, and I'm not sure there's any way to cover that or anyone who will write a policy, aside from Lloyd's of London, for personal liability.

What are the promod drag guys doing? There's a boatload more of them out there, way more than us. Someone must know.

I know the probability is small, but I would sure hate to lose everything I own doing this.

good luck nobody will insure you will it is competing!

I thought Citadel or something thru NADM was available. I figured Gene would be in here with his two cents, but once again I was wrong.

You sledpull a dmax, you could probably plead insanity.

On a side note, you mention things about inspecting the truck. I try to make a point to grab each of the shafts between events to make sure they aren't loose, check the shields, and give the ujoints a good visual. I should probably put a log book in the truck and start documenting this.

Also for the folks who run nitrous, or cheat in other ways, IE your truck doesn't meet the rules of the class, if someone would get hurt by your truck breaking that would fall under negligence, since you knowingly violated the rules of the class.

I'd say the best thing you can do short of insuring it during a competition (which I don't think that is going to happen) is to meet or exceed all the safety requirements for your truck. Air shut off to the rear of the truck and u-joint shields at a minimum.

Associations or local pulls need to stop tolerating idiots who think it's cool to race around in the pits or try to hit 50 mph down the track after they couldn't manage to get the sled started moving... Really puts a good image out there for the rest of us...

Sounds like Dan is ready to get a new truck build on the move! Easy way to get some finances coming in :hehe::poke:
