i have it broken down. both housings are off. how do i get the comp wheel off? does it thread onto the shaft?

after that, the shaft should come out, right?

Garrett

Pull the nut off and slide the wheel off, pull the shaft off, pull the 4 bolts holding the backplate, and have some small snapring pliers for the cc.

the wheel doesnt just "pull off". it seems to be on there pretty damn well.

Garrett

it only spins with some pliers on the exhaust side. its pretty well locked up. thats why im pulling it apart.

Maybe spray some wd-40 on it and let it soak between the shaft and wheel. Let it soak for a while and put a glove on and twist it back and forth, it should work its way loose and start coming off. If its loosening up put not coming off you should be able to get a screwdriver between the backplate and wheel and gently put pressure on it as your twisting it back and forth. Be very gentle tho so it doesn't damage the fragile aluminum.

i had to thread the comp wheel off. i think this charger is done for. the shaft will NOT come out.

get a hammer and a punch. I finally tore down my hx35 that i obliterated a long time ago. turns out the little brass triangle brace (or whatever it is i dont fully understand everything in the turbo yet) shattered and put a quarter sized piece of junk in my oilpan. :bang

Why do you want to tear it down? if you know its pretty much done for i would trash it and move on.

i didnt think it was this bad. i have the rebuild kit for it and was going to fix it and put it back on the truck. guess its going to get scrapped. that sucks!

$300 no shaft play. I just pulled it apart to inspect everything and to sand blast the exhaust housing and comp housing.
