I did some searching tonight on info on big singles and didn't come up with a whole lot of anything and thought I would start a fresh posts to gather info for my self and others.

With most classes changing back to singles from a Twin's class in the previous years in there more modified classes (Super Street, Pro-Mod) I have really been thinking of switching also. Up here in Ontario, we still are alowed to run the twins. 3" inducer (bushings alowed) with twins or unlimited single but with only 7 hooks I am looking to possible start entering NY,PA,OH and IN (MI if I can find a class that will let me run with a full interior).

Anyway, for a guy with a fully built P-Pump (13mm P&B's,custom cut cam,6K rpm) a nice big set of Injectors and a big Water System...what do you think I could run for a single?

Also, lets hear the pro's and con's to the singles vs the twins.

Currently I am running a HTT66 over a Super4C and can spool it in seconds and could use more air to clear the smoke http://youtube.com/watch?v=9PjQlcBVhRk

I have also heard when running the singles you have to run an Intercooler...can comment on that and why you can get away with out one on a twin setup.

Thanks in advance...RyanB

Hmm I am not too experienced with pulling but I can tell you that Bobcat (Garrett Shields) has had really good luck with his ball bearing Turbonetics. He uses a water to air cooler to help lower air temps and I think he said it helped the spoolup at the line a lot.

I would say you should be able to turn something in the 90mm area depending on housing size and turbine wheel.
It takes alot more rpm to be competitive with a big single versus twins.
I.E. a full roller motor is needed to live at that rpm.

hmmm, wondering if I could just run my Super4C then. Its got a 3.4" inducer which is 84mm. I don't have the full roller but it is totally balanced...if I blow it then I could go with the roller motor:-)

On a serious not though....think that charger would work. Off the top of my head I forget the housing sizes but its big but not HUGE by any means.

Lets hear the advantages and disadvantages of both singles and twins...

A BIG single you are going to be hot and cold coming out of the hole, sometimes you'll get it, sometimes you wont. Good chance of snuffing it at the end.
Twins, light easier, and hang on longer.

Look for Ryan Milby videos in a white truck, for big single launches.
Robert Miller videos for twins.

Stick with twins, NADM is growing and the Super Street class is perfect for you.

Yeah I know it is...just trying to plan the summer and get a decent amout of hooks in. Do you guys have the schedual up yet or have an idea? PM me if you want with any details or possible hooks. I was looking at the Western NY club and they have a 14-15 aprox that would work for me.

Don't really want to lose the twins if I don't have to but I need more hook this year than the 6 or 7 we have up here!!!!

PS...I don't mind driving!

Its up and updated every couple days. From Buffalo, you are looking at 3 hooks,3hrs. 6hrs out, more still.

Big singles are fun but you cant be afraid to run it hard and a good clutch is a must too!

Your 4C might be a good test just to see if you like running a big single but there are much better way's to go.

Im in!!! tell ya what...convince your guys to have a pull north of the boarder and get them in here....http://www.fergustruckshow.com/truck_pull.shtml

2 tracks, 4 days...Largest truck show in Canada and I think maybe North America. Last year there were about 75+ pro stock tractors and a bunch of 2wd+ 4wd mods come up and about 10+ Semi's.

Just trying to get something stirred up as they don't have my class there this year.

hey Ryan
Bet you we could talk the promotors at Fergus into a run what ya brung class so long as we werent expectin much in the way of a purse and the trucks had basic safety equipment like shields n such

Kinda a outlaw class but a street truck - licenced and insured bein a qualifier to run

Hell I would put $100 up, for a charity of thier choice, to run at that show against all comers just to see what she can run

thoughts?

That puts me out!!!

Last year the had the Pro-Mods there but with only 2 trucks there to pull it doesn't look to promising for us this year. Another good pull would be Brigdon's Pull and Shine just out side of Sarnia/Port Huron and is an NTPA pull...would be great to see the diesel trucks there also.

im with zach try your 4c out and see how ya like it.

I've seen the 4C ran as a single on high rpm 12v's and they where impressive, I've been told to keep a good eye on the bearings, theres quite a lot of side thrust going on in that turbo if you run it in the 60-70 lbs of boost range.

North of the border is tough one.
Michigan is almost north of the border, Wisconsin

Ryan can you explain this to me?

Ah...sorry about that. I was reading 3 or 4 different sets of rules last night...Full Pull Productions out of NY requires even there big class of diesel trucks to have a full interior including all seats (my rear seat was the first thing that I pulled out)

Anyway, I really need to figure out what I want to do here. Like mentioned above the organization I pull with alows twins but the 3 or 4 oraganizations just south of me only alow singles. The biggest thing I have heard is the amount of torque lost with the singles and I should really swap gears for something higher than my 3:73's...and for me to swap both gear sets plus the ARB' isn't going to happen for this season.

Ryan

just to clarify...

FULL PULL allows the rear seat to be removed!!! you just can not 'gut' the interior of the truck. we have pullers without the rear seat.

also we have added the Steuben County Fair at Bath, New York on August 13 to the schedule. this will be in conjunction with the Western New York group.

thanks
