Alright i changed my injection pump a couple months ago and noticed it doesnt run as good as it used to so im wondering if its possible if the pump gear can move around enough to change the timing when the pump is not in the gear?

I think there is a key that comes with the new pump. The pump is keyed if it is a VP44.

Yah i know that but if the pump gear was turned on the cam gear it would change the timing right?

Yes i can mess up your timing, when you changed the pump, did you remover the gear from the timing cover, or did you leave it in the timing cover and just pop the pump out? If the gear never actually came out it should not have turned, unless it was dilibertly picked up and spun, and i dont know if there is enough clearance for that.

If you left the front timing cover on and only removed the pump and not the gear then it is physically impossible, without breaking it, to move the pump gear at all.

no i did not take the timing cover off just pulled the pump out but when i was putting the new pump on i was movin the gear around quite a bit so i thought maybe i could have turned it some how

Nah. There is slack in the teeth of the gear but not near enough room to actually rotate the gear.
