Ok as some of you know I got my pump done a CDS during the week, Now it is on and runnin but I have a few questions for those who have experience with high timing 33* and it's actions.

In the lower RPM's I have what sounds like a miss and poping once over 2,000 RPM it is smooth and revs death fast and no popping?
On my idle what should I aim for this is puller so? 1000 mabey?
My idle seems to be iradic is this due to the new found fuel and high timing? It seems to change at it's own pace without me touching the idle screw VERY VERY touchy?
I know this probly will be covered but with this high timing will it make it run like poop in the lower R's?
Any more info would be great hint's tip's trick's to get it to idle and have some manners :).

Thank you all ahead of time!

What G springs did you have put in??? 5K or 4K. The poping it just alot of and alot of timing. What cam are you running? 33 deg is lot of timming depending on set up. Are you running a plate in the pump?

This was not my desired setting on timing, I am a rookie and kept poping the gear and loosing my setting so I said I'll run it? 5K's, 0 in the pump im set at 550CC's at 4500 RPM which I plan to maintain 4300 RPM or so down the track. I am running Don's Helix II but when funds are here I will slap a III in their.

How did you verify the timing? Something's not quite right.

I used a snap on kit? set it and rechecked it? I might set a date brandon and meet U at Chris's shop so you can check it out?

Its hard to get timing that high without doing it in steps. The pump as you found out, likes to spring back when you pop the gear off. You kinda have to cheat it in. I've found that after about 5mm of lift the pump wants to jump. It takes some guess work. Move it a little at a time and then check it. IMO I think you might be too far advanced.

the Big pumps are hard to get timed since the cams are so step, you should have bought the adjustable gear. but any way the timing isn't that high I ran 36* and haisleys told me I should have kicked it up to 38*+ mine allways popped also with the high timing

i see trucks on U tube that do the same thing. not that i means anything. i was wondering about the gov. spring also, not being quite right.

Good thought but we set em' on the stand soooo.

Did they not set your pointer at start of injection? Assuming youre running the RQV I would have thought the pointer should have been set at start of inj so u lock time the pump and then pop the gear set the engine where you want it and then retorque it. Maybe others do it different.

I always crack the gear lose before i even stick the dial indicator in, then i retorque it to about 15-20.

If you know what timing the pump is pinned at and you find true TDC you can set the timing rotating the motor forward or back to retard or advance it.

If you running some really high RPM motor sled pulling then running real high timing I can see, if you running it on the street you do not need more than 25, 20 is more like it unless you like drving a lag pig with no bottom end.

I ran mine at 30 once and it sucked plain and simple, if took so long to get some heat in it to spool up the charger I was throwing rocks at it, once lit and above say 2500-2800 it rocked.

Double check your TDC with the drop valve method. I'm guessing that's the part that's not quite accurate.

Messing with the timing on pump/trucks seems to be the biggest PITA.

X2....might check with the guys that did your pump work...if i remember correctly you didn't do any modifying to the cam or b&p's so the timing shouldn't be off...but still might double check what the pump timing pin is set at...

Brandon let me know when Ill come down and help ya out and show you how I do timing pretty easy and straight forward...give me a call 740-216-0106

I'll do that I would like to get this thing up to Chris's shop so we have the indoor luxury!
