Pump or engine issues?

Got a 12V not sure of year model (front cover is off of different engine) Its a fresh rebuild using enterprise engine kit they sell online.

Transfered injectors & injection pump off another engine and went to fire this engine up and it sounds like its running off 4-5 cylinders. Engine shakes horrible and smokes white really bad. Starts to clear up a bit at 2K rpms.

- Checked timing 4 times and it was 20* each time
- I swaped injectors with no change.
- Broke each injector line loose at the pump and all 5 made the engine stumble EXCEPT #2...it did nothing other then spit fuel out from underneath the nut. Which the others didn't do that they just kinda spilled the fuel out. This one SHOT the fuel out.
- Pulled DV's out and checked to make sure the plunger was moving up & down and rotating on #2 and it worked as it should.

I would hate to thing it might be compression on #2 cylinder? even if the rings were lined up wouldn't it have enough compression being a fresh motor to bust over the fuel just would have bad blowby?

Any ideas?

Since you've swapped injectors (I'm assuming with a set that's known to be good), and you were cracking the nuts at the pump.. are you sure the #2 line is free of obstructions?

I took the lines off before swapping injectors and pushed air & carb cleaner through them with no obstructions.

The set of injectors that I started off with in the engine & the pump that's on this engine were run no less then a week prior on another truck with no problems.

I had similar problem when I changed out dv's and injectors. Narrowed it down to one cylinder. Swapped a couple injectors around and stayed with cylinder. Ended up swapping a couple of dv's and made sure they were clean. Put back together and worked fine.

What exactly kind of problems did you have. I just put brand new injectors and dv in after getting gelled fuel in my system. Check out my thread in the 12v tech section. It has all my details. Thanks

My truck ran with a miss until I revved it up and the engine could burn the extra fuel. I installed the dv's and injectors at the same time. I cracked fuel lines 1st to see what cylinder had the problem. Then, I started swapping injectors and then dv's until I had the problem narrowed down. Apparently, a very small piece of something kept the dv from seating, causing a overfueling problem.

Similar problem on my 12v but it was the injectors. They has over 200k on them and were SHOT.

When u say miss what exactly do u mean. Did it sound like a backfire or could you here the engine not running on all 6

It sounded similar to a backfire, since it was overfueling one cylinder or timing was way off.

Im getting lots of white smoke and what sounds to be a backfire at low rpm. The timing is correct with new injectors and dv. At high rpm and boost there is no backfiring. Im pritty shore the plungers in my pump are sticking at low rpm. At high rpm is there more pressure that moves the dv. Im saying there sticking because I pulled the dv holders and saw it. We got them to free up but I think there is some junk still in the pump from the gelled fuel.

is it on a motor stand or in the truck? i used the stock lines flipped around to test out a set of injectors. but it was on a stand.

I had the exhaust valve on #2 WAY to tight. Re-lashed the valves and it ran like a champ!

Come on rookie:hehe:

You got to check all that stuff before posting it on here for us to bust your balls about it:kick:

Or at least lie about it
