pump press? for removing vp44

Not sure what you mean.

You do need a tool to pull the gear off...

Yep it also comes in the 12v timing kit part #SP500 or just the puller is part #SP504 go to snap-on .com and put that # in you can order it online

You are correct, but it is a PITA compared to the snap on puller. Jobs are so much easier with the correct tools.

same here, couple of taps w/ a brass hammer did the trick for me.

we made one out of some scrap peices of steel and an old bolt with a couple nuts... pretty easy if you have a welder...
