I'm looking into parts to do a cam swap coming up and was wondering if anyone has a preference on pushrods. I am going to swap the pushrods and lifters while i've got the cam out, but does anyone know if there is much of a difference between the Hamilton Diesel HD pushrods or the Maxxspool HD pushrods? They are both chromoly and seem to be built well, but the Maxxspool are about $75 less. Any opinions? Thanks

why? just run the stockers, a good weak point and easy fix if they do fail

For $200 i'll do it now and not worry about the stock rods failing, if they ever would

What he is saying is... you rather have a bent rod then failure somewhere else.... Choose your weak points carefully.

Hamilton has the best made pushrods I have had in hand . I bought a different set first and they didn't appear to seat in the tappet properly they were a very different size ball end then stock for sure . I got some from Zach and no surprise the quality was awesome .

i would rather bend push rods than bend valves and jack up pistons but thats just me and my pockets are not as deep as most peoples

A failed pushrod will do nothing more than a miss on a cylinder (usually) and takes 20 to fix.

A failed valve because the pushrod was too strong....that fixes itself in about 2 seconds.

I've asked before, but this brings it up again. What power level are stock rods just impossible?

all i know is i have a head that was done the old school way and pocketed the head for bigger springs and the retainers cover about 2/3-3/4 of the spring, i did 684hp and recently did 667hp on stock push rods

i will be doin a 5K gov springs soon to fix part of my fueling issue, i have spun 4K+ a few times in 1st and 2nd gear but it wont pull it in 3rd or od

So even with 110 lb. springs its good to stay with my original rods? If I ever did bend one, would it be a good idea to just put another stocker in its place to avoid something like head damage? When would be a good time to put HD rods in, after a head job and pistons? Thanks for the input guys

ok, i get what you're saying. I don't have head work done yet and won't until i can get some more money. but i'm wanting to do a 181/210 hamilton cam and 110lb springs and had heard to go ahead and do HD pushrods while I was in there. But i never thought about needing a weak point. thanks for the heads up.

I just saw an engine with stock pushrods bend the valves. Weak pushrods won't guaranteed no valve bending.

Everything needs to be stronger if I drive / own it.....lol

And even then sometimes.......BOOM!

I like my Hamilton's but I've seen stockers do quite a bit too...

It's only money..

You need good pushrods any time you want to take advantage of the power potential whatever combination you have. Bigger/ stronger is better. Stock pushrods in completely stock applications flex and rob HP. What do you think they are doing to big spring, big cam and/ or big boost applications?
