I got a new truck and had some questions to ask u guys. It seems like the truck never heats up. The temp guage stays really lowlike right above 140 so around 150 160. Also it seems like it get bad mileage. The truck was just fire ringed and has pretty big injectors with stock dvs. Also it either smells rich which makes sense or a little bit of burning coolant. But coolant is never low. Like I said ed just did the hg but I donno. What do u guys think?

Most 12 valves the temp gauge will fluctuate like crazy. It will seem like they never get warm and stay warm even in warm weather.

what would an exhaust leak do. Will that make the truck burn coolant if the thermostat is stuck open?

You said it smells rich leading me to believe it is fuel you're smelling. If it is the coolant then replace the thermostat and check the seals.

The thermostat stuck open would cause the coolant to never warm up, or to take a long time to warm. When operating normally it should stay closed to build up pressure and heat in the cooling system. Then when it reaches 190, it opens to cool the engine.

well ive smelt burning coolant and fuel before and im pretty sure its fuel. Yea i know what the thermostat does but that would lead to some burning coolant? Is it difficult to change a thermostat?

both 12 valves ive owned stayed really cool and like to flucuate. Both smell like tractors, especially when first started for the day. its an un-common smell if you are used to VP's or CR's.

if you smell straight up diesel, check your fuel filter. both of my 12valves like to loosen their own fuel filters.

I dont think it is diesel but i will check all this for sure. thanks

This truck has big injectors 5 x .14 im pretty sure with stock dv's? Jw what will be the benefit of getting 191's or Laser cuts.

Do you know if the compression ratio has been changed at all? Depending on what injectors you have, they will tend to haze some at idle, especially when cold.
A set of 191s will give a considerable boost in power, as long as you have the air to burn it. However with the added power also comes more smoke and heat. If you are street driving it I would definitely recommend a set of 191s over full cuts. Full cuts have their place in competition, but they can be a pain on the street.

191s or 022s are good delivery valves, never ran full cuts but many have said bad things about them. If you have a lot of air they may work but if not i'd stay away from them.

Smelling rich is what these things do, especially if you have fueling mods like you have.

no the smell of coolant isn't normal from what im used to, but my truck leaks some oil and from running no fans at all my truck will hit 210 easilly and the burning oil smells a little different. and im running industrial injection dragon flows which are a 5x.016 and they haze like a mofo when i first start the truck until its warmed up. i also have stock delivery valves which are 181's for me. but my 2wd 12v used to run really cool it also had 232k on it, so i suspected that the thermostat was stuck open, or the ect sensor was shot, i never replaced either because i only had the truck a short time.

Well im going to call ED the HG is only 2 months old and i never get on this truck.
