Quick turbo question

What the hell is protrusion? I know what the word means, but what is it when talking about compressor wheels, and why is it sometimes required?

There was a big discussion with pictures in some of the older Super Stock threads. I'm sure if you searched in the sled pulling section, you'll get a **** ton of results.

So it seems to me that protrusion is just the wheel blades have to actually protrude out and into the inlet?
