Hi just finished building my mild pulling engine for my truck drove it for the first time today. It's stock compression with coated pistons and so on, runnin 7x14 injectors with a 300 bar and an hx40. Without the drag comp off I'm seeing 1000egt just drivin at 60 mph and 1300 egt with a little throttle. Does this seem like really high egt's. Any advice would be helpful

I would be happy if my egts would stay under 1800 at wot. That is not even warm at all even with that smaller charger.

I think you read it wrong... "I'm seeing 1000egt just drivin at 60 mph and 1300 egt with a little throttle"

that shouldnt happen.

No there no boost leak. It has 5 psi at 60 mph and u give it some throttle it climbs very quick.

just your sticks. thats the way it goes sometimes. my setup with my twins and 7x12s run at 800 going 60. runs 900 going 70. give it some throttle down low and its at 1100 quick. stay in the throttle though and egts come back below 1050 WOT with no electronics. highest i have hit with everything on and 83psi is 1400 so i am happy. sounds like you just got really really big sticks and not enough air my friend.

Ya that's what I was thinking two, I'm gonna try to get a new 2.5 charger by the end of the month. Do you think that will harm my brand new engine. I only have 100 miles on it.

cruising at 1000 egts wont hurt. now if you go above 1200 for a period of time, thats when chit starts going bad. but if you can keep it at 1000, your good. 7x14 is ALOT of injector for such a tiny turbo.

ya i never planned to run that turbo with those injectors but i had my 64 silver bullet stolen this last winter. i had the hx40 up in my crawl space so thats what im stuck with for now. i just don't want to reck this new motor. another ? would it be worth putting an after market intercooler in it?

I still think something is off. My truck will cruise at 60mph with egts in the 850* area. Thats 1550-1600rpm with a charger that doesnt make 10psi til almost 2k rpm. I know that hx40 will spool quicker then that, so it should keep temps in check a little better at cruising speeds.

My 6x16s fuel way harder then the 7x14s i had as well.

well with the drag box off and just crusin down the hwy at 60 mph its hits 950 to a 1000egt and thats like at 1650rpm with 5 to 10psi out of the hx40. the motor run great everything is brand new and its 16.1 compression on it. so thats why im askin if anyone seen this.

just so you know, 7x14s flow just a TAD more than the 6x16s do. i kinda agree those temps are a tad high just for cruising at 60 like stated i am am 800 at 60 and 900 at 70 and thats with about 3psi of boost while cruising. you could always adjust your valves a little tighter to give you less egts. an intercooler would deff help as well as i have personally seen on my other truck a 175 degree drop with an spearco vs stock cooler.

Ok so a intercooler would help. Could any of this be caused from the compression, and would a 2.5 charger help cool that down a bit so it's manageable

Just going by what ive experienced with the injectors ive run. Didnt dyno but I bet there was a 75hp difference at least, going from my 7x14s to a set of 6x16s. They might flow more on the stand though, idk? or i had a dud set of 7x14s? Either way i dont think it should run that hot. I only get up to 1200*ish getting up to speed on normal acceleration.

if i take off from a stop and keep boost around 20psi my egts never get above 975. if i take off real slow ( normal ) egts will go to 1100 ans stay there till i hit overdrive then they come back down. WOT with no electronics gets me to 1100 and thats it. i do think 1000 cruising is a little warmer than normal but it will by all means not hurt anything. yes an intercooler will help.

Ok but my truck not an auto it's a manual 5 speed so it's hard for me to keep the boost up

with a single 66mm and 7x12's i cruise between 800-1000* on a flat surface. you have larger sticks and a small turbo so i could see yours being around that range. get a bigger turbo and you should see lower temps

Ok so which would be better a 66 or a 64. I'm trying to stay in the work stock class for pulling which is a 2.5 class. And which brand for the turbo

Those are some big sticks for either one imo. I think the ones in mine are too big for my 66. If your wanting to stay in that class I would find smaller sticks and a 64.

thats what i would suggest. maybe a 64 and some 7x10s or 7x11s or a 66 and some 7x12s. its going to cruise hot regardless but 7x10s and a 64 would make a good combo.
