Recently i been getting all the info i can on a he351 swap on my 2nd gen. I just got about everything figured out to build it and i had found a sweet(or i thought) he351 with 17,000 miles on it. My buddy tells me today he went and looked at the turbo and it needs rebuilt alot of side to side play. Apparently the truck it was on had a oil problem and it got to the turbo as well. So with that said should i go ahead and buy it for $200 bucks and rebuild it or should i go with something else. O ya and what do yall think it would cost to rebuild it?

I do have someone with a hx35 for sale for $280, i was thinking i could get that and do a 35/40 hybrid with it. I wouldnt have to modify much except the downpipe. How much does the hybrid kit cost?

i think your wasting your time. wait till you can get something bigger than that clayton

Lol alright, So my buddys got a ht3b. Should i do a twin setup now?? Or still go with a 64? I guess im just jumping the gun because i put these injectors in expecting to be alot faster and i got alot slower. I am only hitting 24psi, im getting a turnbuckle tomorrow to hold the wastegate shut but still a hy is only good til 33psi then the rest is just hot air.

What are you looking for? What are your goals ,just lower egts on the cheap?
Where are you located?

My goal is a 12 sec truck. But at the moment my goal is for it to pull alot harder up top. Its ridiculous, i put my foot it in it and boy does it rip for a sec but then it just hits a wall and goes no further. Its slower then it used to be. Im honestly looking for something to get me by til i get a bigger turbo (64mm). Btw im located in Central Tx.

If your HY is on it's last leg, and you don't for see being able to drop $1500-$2000 for a bigger single anytime soon, I would just find an HX that you could run until you get the funds for a 64. IMO I would not mess with the twins or the HE351. The 351 has a small 9cm (iirc) exhaust housing that will hit it's efficiency limit pretty quick. As for twins, an upgraded single will take you further than you ever need to go with much less of a headache. Have you gone any bigger on your injectors? I was thinking you were still running stock, and if that's the case, with stock fueling from them, plus running an auto, I would hate to see your truck with someone's off the shelf 64. I would think it would be a dog on your truck. Call Engineered Diesel up and see what Chris recommends for you a turbo. Let him know current and future goals. They can build something much better to work with your setup. Like I said, if you can't go bigger right now, I would throw an HX on for the time being. Let me know if you need an HX. I've got one sitting back home I could probably get rid of pretty cheap, and I will be there this weekend and could bring it back to College Station with me. I know the HX I have has some miles on it, but was pulled off still in perfect running condition, but might not hurt to throw a $50 rebuild at it.

I have 80hp injectors now. I got the turnbuckle on my Hy to hold it shut and setup the the adrenaline a little better. RUNS ALOT BETTER! Anyways, i still wanna do twins im up for a challenge. It cant be rocket science, i have talked to 2 people now that have ran a hx35/htb3 and they said there was hardly any problems.

It's not that it's hard or a problem really, it's just that there's no reason to, but to each their own...

Clay are you sure you want to follow Tylers suggestions for making good power on a vp truck?
