rebuild vp44

I am having to replace my vp here soon, and it looks like i am going to have to get a used one, so i was thinking about tearing my old one apart to see if it can be rebuild. I know that the computer has to be calbriated. but what if the computer is fine? Any way to know? my thinking is if the computer is fine, then it might be possible to just rebuild the mechanical parts. Is this incorrect?

You can but I don't know of to many that fail mechanically.
