reg cab to ext cab short bed?

Ive been looking for a older 12v for a tow rig and dd when the family is with me. Ive found a lot of reg cabs in our price range, is it possible to take a reg cab and put a ext cab on it with a short bed? or is the ext short longer? if all else i could make a flat bed.

the frames are totally different. your best bet is to find a club cab and just cut down the frame.
