I'm not up on knowledge with the 24v and have a couple of questions brother in law had his 01 spin a bearing and ruin the cam in the process possible oil supply problem with 180,000 miles. Anyway the mechanic that worked on it found another motor to drop in out of a 02, they put the motor in and can not get it to run right so they took it to the local dodge dealer and they said that the motors are not compatable in different years on the 24v????? I'm assuming the cpu's are different but why couldn't they put the cpu off of the old motor on the new one? I'm sure there is alot more to it than that but I'm used to my 12v with out all the electronics. So someone school me on this.
Thanks

All the sensors from the old motor need to go on the new one, the electronics are not the same between the two. Beyond that I couldn't tell you, sorry :(

You should be able to swap everything over and be fine. One thing though, I can't remember the exact split but somewhere around 01-02 dodge got rid of the crank position sensor on the 01's and went to cam position sensor only on the 02's.

Just out of curiousity what would be the symtems if you had a bad crank position sensor or didn't hook it up? Would the truck be able to start?

01 had it, 02's don't. Tyler is correct. Also, 01 had a variable oil pressure sensor that would send actual oil pressure data, the 02's just have a dummy "pressure/no pressure" sensor. With the attitude monitor or any other CAN bus data reader, you can get actual oil pressure on an 01 but not on an 02.

Did you drop the motor in complete with everything on it? You'll need to keep the 01 ECM on it and also swap out the PCM on the truck or get one programmed. Or just have the ECM reprogrammed to match the PCM on the truck. Either way, Dodge with their DRB tool can program the modules correctly. Sound like you have a sensor problem. $.02
