A local birdy told me recently the pulling orgs are going to use a nitrous sniffer to check for nitrous oxide in the crankcase after each puller. Yay? Nay?

Personally, I'm glad. A bunch of truck owners will need to figure out how to make power again instead of jsut spraying the extra 20'. :rockwoot:

Damnit! I was planning on spraying a extra 20' this year.

hmm looking for "extra" O2 would be hard.

Sniffing for SF6 would be easy.

Medical Grade N2O will be almost impossible to detect.

oops made a mistake...it's not SF6, it's SO2.

per the NOS website, N20 used for performance applications contains 100 PPM SO2.

any meter used for confined space entry might work...but it will also detect the SO2 generated from burning low sulfur fuel...so it will be hard to prove.

would it help? take a 7.3 with an after market charger like a GT42 i ran if i hooked up my cranck case vent it would suck oil out of the valve cover. so i figured that you could suck all the fumes out really quick if your engine was vented well.

I would need to see proof positive that it actually works....like from dyno testing.

Then show me how long you have to detect the residual whatever, because just running it will come out in the wash....after 20 seconds it might be gone. A correctly done experiment would give you an idea how much time you have to test.

I dunno, a sensitive test instrument in the hands of Cooter Sixpack doesn't really give me a lot of confidence. The big thing to worry about is a false postive test.

bad bad bad bad idea

thats asking for a run-away

now putting a crankcase evac system on the uses exhaust to vent the crank would be a better idea... and encourage ring seal

Been down this road already

It's not going to work. There has been sniffers before and it doesn't work for medical grade or with buffers in the mix. If a guy wants to hide it your not going to find it. It kills me how everyone worries about nos but they overlook other things that help just as much! Chargers, motorplacement, rear ends and on and on. All the power in the world will only get you so much. It has to be applied. Jeff

yeah i hate nitrous. learn how to build a truck

I just think nitrous should be kept away from pulling all together. If you have to lie about having it at a pull you shouldn't be puling in the first place. If you wanna use Nitrous thats what drag racing is for. :soap:

Haha.. Garland, that's good...

We have a Modified tractor class.. (not Diesel.) They can run NOS or a Supercharger... I think there's only one running NOS...

Maybe they just need a class specific to nos and maybe twins as well.
