Have any of you guys read about the rustoleum paint jobs that others have been doing? There are hundreds of pages on it on one of the mopar forums and hot rod magazine even did a feature on painting a car with it.
Bringing up the topic makes body guys cringe! I figure why not. It only costs ~$100 and you don't need any special tools.

Thanks.
There is definitely some orange peel. We learned a lot in the process. We may actually try another top coat to try to improve it a little. The front fenders came out the best (4th pic) I am not sure what we did right?
The important thing to us is that it is 1 color now.

It works, but I'm afraid your shine and original color won't last like a catalyzed automotive paint job would.

We will see on the shine. There are guys on the mopar forum that have had their cars painted for ~5 years and were able to go down to their local store and get a new can of paint to make a repair.
It can be buffed just like an automotive paint to restore shine that may have faded. If it starts to look bad another $100 and some time will make it good as new.
I already have plans for the next paint job. Just have to find the vehicle to do it on.

Industrial enamels just don't hold up to chemicals and such the way an automotive finish does. I think diesel will stain it if not wiped off immediately and gasoline might take it off completely. You're right about cost, it is significantly cheaper.
Anything can be buffed. However, you won't be able to buff it more than a few times. Your pad will be the same color as your truck is because you're taking the paint off with your compound.

It's your choice and its your truck. You certainly have the right to put whatever you want to on the sheet metal. If you store it inside, it will probably last just fine. Stored outside in the elements I think you'll see the fade that I was referring to. :)

I've painted alot of stuff with Rustoleum and think it works great. Though, none of them were body panels... mostly bumpers, valve covers, ladder bars and lumber racks. For what it is, Rustoleum holds up pretty well.

Did you get my PM this morning?

The guys to the nort (canada) have a clear available for their "rustoleum" brand paint. (can't remember the brand) Some have tried it with mixed results. If I had the option of a clear that would work with this paint I may try it. At this point I don't know that I need it. It is just a drag truck not a car up for the ridler award.

Sounds to me like you could just take it to a metal works place with a sand blaster and a paint gun. I've had fuel tanks, frames, tables & chairs blasted and Rustiesss painted but never a car, truck or equipment? Although, CAT, Komatsu' and others do make 'repair' paint in a can....

Prep is just like a normal paint job.
Here is a link to the mopar board where there are ~300 pages of discussion on this. LINK
Do a search on google. There are a bunch of links. Some good some bad. Youtube also has some videos, although I have yet to see a good video on there.

Damn, you used Rustoleum too!! All of our short trucks have something common, mine is Rustoleum Satin Black...
