has anybody done a compressor swap on a s300 and had problems with the turbo being out of balance?? ive been told that the turbine& shaft are balanced as an assembly, and the compressor is balanced by itself. do the 2 need to be balanced as an assembly, i know that holset doesent do this, just wondering if borg warner does, i know turbonetics does balance the 2 together. reason why i am asking is i have a 66/65/14 that i am going to swap a 62 wheel, and housing onto tomorow, and i just need to know if i need to have the thing rebalanced, or if i will be ok with just installing the compressor and housing. by the way Chris at ED hooked me up with the compressor and housing! thanks again Chris!

wes, i have never heard of balancing both, course i am no turbo builder. the wheel is what is balanced. i have changed more then a few wheels when rebuilding turbos and never had a problem. if the housing and wheel are new then i dont see a problem. but give high tech a call, they can help you out. josh

I just had my spare S300/C300G071 done and the local turbo guy said the stock compresor wheel was way out of balance and there was not even a scratch on it.
I knew the turbine was out of balance so I was paying for a balance job anyway but I was surprised the stock compressor piece was out.
The turbo on the truck had a well balanced compressor wheel when it was checked.

I change mine from a 66 to a 62, one housing didn't like the fit so we had to use another and it has worked well for 10k or soo!

the only drawback is the backing plate being cut for a 66, you might lose a little spoolup but probably nothing to worry about!

Call Chris at E.D.. At least he will explain it to you instead of HTT telling you need to send it in.
