I got this turbo from a 2004 series 60 DDC that was used as a demo engine for detroit diesel... was never run on the street. Detroits part number is 23515635, its got a 72mm inducer, 102mm exducer comp wheel and a 96mm inducer and 88mm exducer on the turbine wheel. The turbine housing is a 1.34 a/r.....
I talked to a Borg Warner engineer on the phone who told me the turbo crosses over to a BW p/n 171701, and should be a direct match. The thing is that all the wheel dimensions match up but the comp wheel is 6 blade instead of 7, the BW engineer told me thats weird and wanted me to send him pics... no response from him yet. Also the specs on the 171701 s472 states that it has 1.32 housing and not a 1.34.
I know for a fact it is not a k31 because this turbo has a cast wheel like the s400 and the shaft diameter is larger. Can anyone help me out?? I'm trying to figure out if this would be a good turbo to put under a 62/71 s300 for towing and daily driver.

Heres a few pics, i think you can figure out which is the one im talking about.

If anyone want a pic of the comp wheel with the housing off i can get that too.

Well... it says Garrett on the compressor housing. What makes you think its a BW turbo? I assume thats a T6 flange? Does it have a number stamped in the EH(might have to rub the soot off to see) Looks Kinda like HT60 with the reverse rotation...

It is a garret, the garrett's flair out at the compressor discharge like that.
It would be a decent charger in a set of twins. I know some who run them as singles on pulling trucks.

Just FYI, My s400 flares like that too... that why the HT60 elbow fits the s400 so well :D

I think its a BW because it has a Borg Warner and Allied Signal tag riveted on to the center section with the part number and serial number on it. The only part number on the exhaust housing is 496211, and yes it is a t6 flange.

Screw this turbo, i think im gonna slap it on ebay and get an off the shelf s475... i rather know what i have. Who knows if this thing will even spool well.

If you look at the s400 compared to the garrett, yes the discharge is the same diameter, but the shape is different.

MUCH Different. Garretts are smooth flowing to a 3.5 v band. S400s are more of a sharp bend.

Heres a pic of my S472 that ran good until last night when it gave up.
