Are they direct swaps for each other....like unbolt a 475 and bolt in a 480 with no other mods ?

dont see why not, as long as there both t-6 flanges. the s-480 might have a larger intake (5.5")

I'm not sure...I need to find the physical size differences of the 2 somewhere. I know now they'll interchange but I dcon't know how much bigger the compressor cover is on a 480.

I'm sure Chris or Glen can fill me in.

I gotta buy one or the other anyway.....primary is toast.

I thought you lunched your secondary Rich? Maybe I misunderstood.

So you toasted both chargers? Or just the primary?
Do you have a racecover on the 475 or just the standard cover?

I thought it was the secondary...Keating gave it a clean bill of health today. I still don't get it because the only time I heard any noises was right off idle just as the secondary's boost gauge started moving. The oil inside the compressor housing apparently came from the primary.

Glen...it's just a standard S475. 171702 part number IIRC.

S475 and S480 should interchange as long as they both have to standard covers of the same A/R...I have a S400 here with 3 wheels/covers...S475, S478, and S480, all interchangeable

Me personally, I like that 78mm wheel the best...6 blade, spools fast, cools good...I've heard from some that it spools like a 75, and flows like an 80, but I've never swapped them all in the same setup to verify. The setup I built with the 78 was the nicest spooling set I've done so far...

I had an S475 on my truck for about 2 years.
Then i found a good deal on an S480 and it is a direct drop in. Keep in mind they were both with 1.32 A/R housings.
I LOVED the 80mm much more than the 75mm. Driving Egts went down about 300* at crusing speed. I was very impressed.
Boost with 64/65/14 and the S480 with 1.32 a/r was right at 83psi with no external gate. A year ago... i finally got around to putting a ex. gate on it from E.D. and a week later it locked up. It is still apart at this time with plans on selling the S480 and getting a hold of a S488. So if anyone has one let me know.
