I need some opinions from some of you who know more about turbos than me. Is there anything wrong with a S480 as a 2.8 charger? Anybody know a good place to get a good price on one? Thanks in advance.

Chris

Thats a pretty big single. What kind of set up is on the truck your wanting to run it on?

why don't ya ask JerrodGlover how well they spool as a single in stock form LOL actually spool isn't the problem , but keepin it lit sure is

In stock form a s480 is a 3.2" Charger. One could work but you better bring some big boy motor.

Ok I talked to a guy from Columbas(forgot his name) up at TS event last year and he said they had an S480 with a 2.8 wheel. He said that he could send me one with the big housing 1.32A/R (which I know there is no way I could keep it lit). And just swap me the next size housing down until I could keep it lit. Sounded like a good deal to me but I haven't had the funds to do so. The truck it will b going on is a 180 pump. It will have full cut dv's, a set of modified 370's from Jim Bower, (cut tips and modified bodies), 0 plate, 29* timing, ported head, stage 2 cam from Pure Diesel.

Would this work? Or is it jus an all together bad idea? Thanks for the input.

I think you may be a bit short on the fuel. I can tell you you will want to skip the 1.32 housing.

smokinrod its cool you aint bein a jerk. I asked for opinions. If you wanted to say my question was the dumbest thing you ever heard then so be it. I'm jus tryin to learn wat i need at this. I don't know as much as I'd like to about buildin a good puller, but I knew there was no way that set up would ever keep the thing lit with a 1.32A/R housing. This is what the guy from Columbas told me. . . "A set of pro street or pro stock injectors, a cam, about 550cc of fuel, and the proper tunning it would have no problem running good". I told him the same things I told yall. Biggest line of b.s. any of yall heard? . . He also said that he could get like a .90A/R housing for this one. Would this not be helping me in the process of keeping it lit with the smaller housing?? Thanks for the help guys. Like I said I'm jus trying to learn and i know a lot of ya'll have been doin this a lot longer than me.

to get down to the .90 he would have to drop the ex wheel down to an 83mm T4 I beleive witch would be a big help.

the main thing is gonna be the pump and gearing. you will need a BIG pump that will spin to win and then atleast a 4.88 gear to keep the truck up in the r's so as not to fall under the chager.

if you are gonna go the 2.8 route than there are far better choices out there. if I were you I would call ED and tell them what you want and what you expect to acheive, then they can tell ya what you would want.

If you want to run a smaller housing on an S400 stay away from the 96mm-1.32AR set up. That center section is unique and take a great deal of work to switch to something smaller. Your better off starting with something closer to your end goal. 2.8/83/T4-.90 or 1.0, something like that should get you started.

Hey ED

Not trying to steal the thread. But what good 2.8 chargers do you have ED? Im still looking at your 2.5 that a guy has around here( you say it can support 700HP), But I am still wanting to stay in th 2.8 class.

Your rite Rod but we had to go to 5.13 and have 650cc fuel with a 80 housing and still had problems keeping it lit and comming out of the holeat 5200rpm
The boy's from EngenerdDiesel are getting us fixed up.

I knew the truck for sure wouldn't keep the turbo lit with the bigger housings on it. I was likin the idea of that charger for the price and him swapping housings with me till I got the one I needed. The truck has 4:10's in it now. I've got a charger now that I got a really good deal on and I thought i could get a smaller housing for. Then i found out that I managed to get an S400 that you can't get a different housing for. carifichris I think its the big charger you are talking bout. The 96 wheel and 1.32 housing. I will call the guys at ED as soon as I get a few min and find the number. lol Thanks for the help guys.
