i just purchase a sbc 3800# dd clutch with bigger input and upgrade hyds how hard are these to install im mech inclined and have worked in a tranny shop yrs ago is there in tips any of you can give me im going to pull tranny and transfer togather to save some time unless i have to tear into tranny to install the bigger input any help or advice would be nice

The input comes out the front you don't need to take apart the trans. Make sure there is enough preload on the bearings when you put it back together!

Unless you have a good trans jack I always found it easiest to seperate the transfercase. Makes balancing the trans alot easier. Its only 6 or 8 more nuts.

Pull the transfer case out by its self. You can easily pull the transfer case out by yourself and just lay it down. Just the top two bolts are a PIA and hard to get to, you might need to pre-bend a 9/16 wrench to get up there. I've done it many of times, just watch out for the oil because it will come out on you if you tilt it the wrong way. LOL

As burnin oil said that tranny alone is a heavy SOB and would make it unbalanced if transfer case was still attached unless you have a lift.

I've always pulled the trans and t-case together, but my trans jack has forward/backward and side to side adjustments. Remember that the motor tips forward on these and not backwards like a gasser.

modify a bottle jack with an extention so you can spread the frame where the xfer case mounts. the frame is tapered so if you dont spread the frame you have to beat it backwards to get it out. if you spread the frame it drops right down

Just take the transfer case out separate. It may take a couple extra minutes but will be easier to get things lined back up putting it back together.

Install the clutch before you install the input shaft. Use the shaft as your alignment tool. The plastic tool SBC sends is junk, I've never had good luck.

i always pull the tranny and transfer together i use a motorcycle jack and a rachet strap to hold it in place.

and for lining up the plates makes some studs just to line it up. and when you tighten the plate down you need to keep some up pressure on you alignment tool or i will bind. i took my plastic on broke the loop off, drilled a hole in the ball and lock tighted a bolt into the hole and the ball solid in place.

made it alot easier
